Welcome to Skitchen! We are a company dedicated to providing high-quality cookware and bakeware for your kitchen needs. Today, we would like to share with you a recipe for preparing Sourdough bread using our cast iron pans.

Sourdough bread is a timeless classic that has been enjoyed for centuries. Made with a mixture of flour, water, and natural yeast, this bread has a unique tangy flavor and a crusty exterior that is perfect for toasting or dipping in olive oil. And what better way to bake this bread than in a cast iron pan?

Cast iron pans are an excellent choice for baking bread as they are durable, retain heat well, and provide even heat distribution. Plus, the cast iron surface will create a crispy, golden crust that is hard to achieve with other types of bakeware.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 200 g of active sourdough starter
  • 400 g of all-purpose flour
  • 200 g of water
  • 10 g of salt

  • A large mixing bowl
  • A wooden spoon or spatula
  • A clean cloth or kitchen towel
  • A cast iron pan with a lid

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, all-purpose flour, and water. Mix the ingredients together until they form a rough, shaggy dough.
  2. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth or kitchen towel and let the dough rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  3. After the dough has rested, add the salt to the mixture and knead it for about 10 minutes. This will help to develop the gluten and create a smooth, elastic dough.
  4. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it ferment for about 6-8 hours. The dough should double in size and become more bubbly and active.
  5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place the cast iron pan in the oven to heat up while it preheats.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a round loaf. Place the loaf into the hot cast iron pan.
  7. Cover the cast iron pan with the lid and bake for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the lid and continue to bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the loaf is a deep golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  8. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack.

And that’s it! Your fresh and delicious sourdough bread is ready to be enjoyed. Whether you slice it for toast, use it for sandwiches, or simply savor it with a drizzle of olive oil, this timeless bread is sure to be a staple in your kitchen.
